What is a TurboTax Service Code?

If you’re using the online version of TurboTax (that’s the one that’s web-based, where you don’t need to install any software on your computer) then you’ll notice that there is an area where you can enter a “service code”. It basically serves as a coupon code box or for tracking an order (a TurboTax customer representative may provide you with one if you received help before completing your purchase). It will look something like the screenshot below.

If you use you use any of the offers posted on this page then you won’t need to use it. That’s because the discounts are automatically applied to your order by following the provided links.

How else can I save on TurboTax?

One of the other options to save a little bit more on your TurboTax order is by using a rewards credit card. For example, the Chase Freedom credit card offers up to 5% cash back on your purchases. A number of other banks offer similar perks. Just keep in mind that in order to signup you will need to pass their credit application process and not everyone will be eligible.

2025 TurboTax Discounts & Offers – February 2025

Updated on Monday, February 17, 2025: As we move into the 2025 tax season, it’s time to start thinking about filing our returns, especially for those looking to save with early season deals. TurboTax, one of the most widely used tax preparation services, is offering some notable discounts during February, which could help reduce the cost of filing your taxes. Whether you’re someone who prefers to handle everything on your own or you’re in need of professional help, there’s likely a TurboTax plan that fits your needs, and with the right timing, you can save big.

In addition to some of the general TurboTax offer, there’s also a special offer available for AAA members. If you’re a member of the American Automobile Association, you can take advantage of extra savings on TurboTax products, which is just one of the many perks of being a part of this organization. Let’s take a closer look at the best TurboTax discounts available this February 2025, how you can use them, and how AAA members can maximize their savings even further.

1. Extra 20% Off TurboTax Online Federal Products

TurboTax’s biggest promotion in February 2025 is the extra 20% off on federal online products, which are already discounted as part of their early-season sale. This means you could save up to 40% off your TurboTax filing, depending on the service level you choose. This offer is valid through February 28, 2025, so there’s plenty of time to take advantage of it. But how does it work?

TurboTax offers several service tiers, and the discount applies to all of them. Here’s a breakdown of the options available:

  • Do-It-Yourself Versions: This is the option for those who prefer to handle their own taxes. TurboTax’s software is user-friendly, guiding you through each step of the filing process and asking relevant questions to ensure accuracy. If you’re comfortable filing taxes independently, this might be the perfect fit for you.
  • Live Assisted Versions: For those who want a little more guidance while doing it themselves, TurboTax’s Live Assisted options provide access to tax professionals who can answer questions and offer advice. This is great if you need a little extra help but still want to manage the process yourself.
  • Full Service Versions: If you’d rather leave the entire tax preparation process in the hands of experts, TurboTax’s Full Service options allow you to upload your documents, and tax professionals will handle the rest. This is ideal for those who have complicated returns or simply prefer to avoid the hassle of filing their taxes.

The extra 20% off applies to all these service tiers, meaning whether you’re filing independently, seeking occasional assistance, or letting professionals handle it, you’ll get a discount. This is a great deal, especially if you know you’ll need TurboTax’s higher-level services but want to save as much as possible.

2. Never filed with TurboTax? Now’s your chance to file for free!

For the 2025 tax season, file all your forms for free—regardless of your tax situation—when you use the official TurboTax mobile app (iOS & Android). Just make sure to file by February 28, 2025. Excludes TurboTax Live.

3. TurboTax Free Edition: File Your Taxes for Free

Not everyone needs to pay for tax software, and TurboTax’s Free Edition is a solid option for those with a simple tax situation. If your taxes only involve a basic Form 1040 and you qualify for certain credits (like the Earned Income Tax Credit or Child Tax Credit), you can file both your federal and state taxes at no cost.

However, it’s important to note that the Free Edition is only available to about 37% of taxpayers. If you have more complex tax situations (such as self-employment income or investments), you’ll need to upgrade to one of the paid versions of TurboTax.

Here’s what qualifies as a simple tax return:

  • Filing Form 1040 without additional schedules or forms
  • Limited credits, like the Child Tax Credit, Earned Income Tax Credit, and Student Loan Interest Deduction
  • No significant income from business ownership, investments, or rental properties

If you meet these criteria, the Free Edition is an excellent choice, and you can file your taxes at no charge. But if your tax situation is more complicated, you’ll need to consider one of the paid TurboTax versions.

4. TurboTax is Offering to Beat the Price You Paid a CPA or Licensed Tax Preparer Last Year

If you used a CPA or licensed tax preparer last year, TurboTax Full Service is offering to beat that price by at least 10% for your 2024 tax filing. To qualify, you need to lock in the deal by March 18, 2025, and file your return by March 25, 2025. Your new price will be based on the lower of two options: 10% less than what you paid last year or TurboTax’s standard pricing. Proof of last year’s tax prep fee may be required. This promotion applies only to TurboTax Full Service for personal taxes and cannot be combined with other discounts.

5. 50% Off QuickBooks Solopreneur (with Live Assisted Tax)

For freelancers, self-employed individuals, or small business owners, TurboTax has partnered with QuickBooks to offer a major discount on the QuickBooks Solopreneur plan. New customers can get 50% off the first three months of the subscription, bringing the cost down from $20/month to just $10/month. This deal includes QuickBooks Live Assisted Tax, a service that is tailor-made for self-employed individuals who need to file a Schedule C (Form 1040).

Here are the key benefits of QuickBooks Solopreneur with Live Assisted Tax:

  • Unlimited Access to Tax Experts: QuickBooks gives you direct access to tax professionals who can help you maximize your deductions, answer questions, and ensure your taxes are accurate. This is particularly valuable if you’re a freelancer or small business owner with more complex tax needs.
  • Seamless Integration with TurboTax: The integration between QuickBooks and TurboTax allows for a streamlined tax filing process. QuickBooks automatically syncs your financial data with TurboTax, meaning you won’t need to manually enter your business income and expenses. This saves you time and reduces the chance of errors.
  • Personalized Advice: The service offers tailored advice to help you uncover industry-specific tax credits and deductions. For example, as an Uber driver or a freelancer, you may have deductions available to you that are unique to your line of work.
  • 100% Accurate, Expert-Approved Guarantee: With this service, you can feel confident that your tax return will be accurate, and you’ll receive expert guidance every step of the way.
  • Audit Support: If you’re ever audited, QuickBooks provides on-demand audit support, giving you one-on-one assistance to help you navigate the audit process.

If you’re self-employed or run a small business, this partnership between QuickBooks and TurboTax offers a valuable discount that can simplify your tax filing and save you money. Keep in mind that this deal is only available to new QuickBooks customers, so if you’ve been thinking about using QuickBooks to streamline your business finances, now is the perfect time to give it a try.

5. AAA Member Discounts on TurboTax

If you’re a member of the American Automobile Association (AAA), you can also get an exclusive discount on TurboTax products this tax season. As one of the 60 million AAA members in North America, you’re eligible for $5 to $15 off TurboTax Online, which can be a great way to lower your tax preparation costs.

The AAA discount applies to various TurboTax products, including their Deluxe, Premier, and Self-Employed versions. Depending on your region and membership level, you could save up to $20 on your TurboTax filing.

Here’s how to take advantage of the AAA discount:

  1. Visit your regional AAA website: For example, members in Northern California should go to calstate.aaa.com, while those in North Carolina should visit carolinas.aaa.com. If you’re unsure which website applies to you, check your local AAA branch for details.
  2. Log in or create an account: If you haven’t already, you’ll need to log in to your existing AAA account or create a new one. Keep in mind that you need to be an active member to access the discount.
  3. Search for the TurboTax link: Once logged in, navigate to the “offers” section and find the TurboTax link. This will take you to a page where you can access TurboTax’s offerings with your AAA discount already applied.
  4. Check your discount: Before completing your purchase, ensure that the discount has been applied correctly. You’ll see the savings on the “Review your order” screen before finalizing your payment. If the discount isn’t showing up, double-check the link and try again.

It’s important to note that the AAA discount runs regionally, meaning the specific offer or amount can vary depending on where you live. Some regions may offer higher or lower savings, so be sure to review the details for your specific location before purchasing.

6. Why Use TurboTax?

TurboTax is one of the most popular and trusted tax preparation tools in the U.S. Each year, millions of taxpayers use TurboTax because of its ease of use, accuracy, and comprehensive features. Here are a few reasons why TurboTax is a go-to choice for many:

  • Step-by-Step Guidance: TurboTax walks you through the entire filing process with clear instructions and helpful prompts, making it easy even for first-time filers.
  • Maximize Your Refund: The software automatically scans your return to ensure you’re claiming all the deductions and credits you’re eligible for, helping you get the largest refund possible.
  • Accuracy Guarantee: TurboTax offers a 100% Accurate, Expert-Approved Guarantee on their paid versions, so you can rest assured your taxes will be filed correctly.
  • Audit Support: If you’re audited, TurboTax offers expert advice and assistance to guide you through the process, which can reduce the stress of dealing with the IRS.
  • Access to Tax Professionals: With TurboTax’s Live Assisted and Full Service versions, you can speak to a tax expert who can answer questions, review your return, and provide personalized advice.

Whether you’re filing a simple return or need help with self-employment income, TurboTax has a service that fits your needs. And when you combine it with one of the ongoing discounts—like the AAA member savings—you can save even more on your filing.

TurboTax 2025 Discounts & Offers – February 2025

Top TurboTax Discounts Available in February 2025

Tax season is here, and if you’re on the hunt for savings on TurboTax to make filing a little easier (and cheaper), January is one of the best times to secure a discount. TurboTax offers a variety of promotions to fit different needs, whether you’re filing as a student, a self-employed individual, or active-duty military personnel. Below is a breakdown of the top TurboTax discounts available this month, along with tips on how to make the most of them.

1. An Extra 20% Off TurboTax Online Federal Products

One of the best deals on TurboTax right now is their early season sale where you’ll get an extra 20% off on all of TurboTax’s federal online products (which you can pick up here). This deal is flexible, allowing you to choose from different service tiers based on your tax preparation needs:

  • Do-It-Yourself Versions: These are ideal for those who are comfortable handling their taxes on their own with the help of TurboTax’s user-friendly software.
  • Live Assisted Versions: For those who might want a little extra help, these versions provide access to tax experts who can guide you through the process.
  • Full Service Versions: If the thought of doing your taxes makes you shudder, this option lets TurboTax’s team handle the entire process for you.

The extra 20% discount is valid through February 28, 2025, so there’s still some time to take advantage of it before the end of the month.

2. New Customers File in The TurboTax App for Free

Haven’t used TurboTax before, or at least not last year? Now’s the perfect time to switch! For the 2025 tax season, you can file all your tax forms—no matter your tax situation—100% free when you file using the official TurboTax mobile app (available on iOS and Android). This exclusive offer is only available if you file by February 28, 2025 and did not use TurboTax last year. Offer includes all forms, any situation, excluding TurboTax Live.

3. TurboTax Will Beat Last Year’s CPA or Tax Preparer Fee

TurboTax is offering a price match plus a 10% discount on what you paid last year to a CPA or licensed tax professional when you file your 2024 taxes using TurboTax Full Service. To take advantage of this deal, you must sign up by March 18, 2025, and complete your filing by March 25, 2025. This offer is available only if you used a CPA or tax preparer (excluding TurboTax Full Service Business) for your 2023 return. TurboTax will calculate your new fee based on the lower of two options: 10% off your previous tax preparation cost or their standard Full Service pricing. A receipt from last year’s tax filing may be required to verify eligibility. This deal applies exclusively to TurboTax Full Service for individual tax returns and cannot be stacked with other offers.

4. TurboTax for College Students

If you’re a college student filing taxes for the first time, TurboTax offers features designed to make the process straightforward and stress-free. With guidance tailored to first-time filers, the software walks you through the process step by step.

Many students can take advantage of education-related tax breaks, such as education credits and deductions that could add up to over $1,000 back in refunds. If you’re an international student, TurboTax also partners with Sprintax, which specializes in non-resident tax preparation, ensuring you meet the specific requirements for filing as an international student.

5. 50% Off QuickBooks Solopreneur (with Live Assisted Tax)

For small business owners or freelancers, this deal is a standout. You can get 50% off the first three months of the QuickBooks Solopreneur. Normally priced at $20 per month, this promotion brings the cost down to just $10 per month (learn more).

QuickBooks Live Assisted Tax offers self-employed individuals a seamless way to file taxes with unlimited expert help, ensuring accuracy and maximizing deductions. Designed for Solopreneur subscribers filing Schedule C (Form 1040), it integrates directly with QuickBooks to streamline the process by giving tax experts access to your financial data. You’ll receive personalized advice to uncover industry-specific tax credits and deductions, backed by a 100% Accurate, Expert Approved Guarantee. Throughout the year, a team of TurboTax experts is available on-demand to answer questions, and if you face an audit, they’ll provide one-on-one guidance. The process is simple: prepare your books in QuickBooks, connect with experts via phone, chat, or live video for insights and assistance, and file confidently after a final expert review. You only pay when you file.

This deal is ongoing but is available only to new QuickBooks customers, so it’s worth jumping on if you’re considering it with TurboTax.

6. Military Discount for Active-Duty Personnel

Active-duty military members and reservists ranked E1 through E9 can qualify for free federal and state filing with TurboTax Deluxe, Premier, or Self-Employed. This is a generous offer, but there are some restrictions to keep in mind:

  • The military discount applies only to TurboTax’s online products.
  • It excludes TurboTax Live and Desktop (CD/download) versions.
  • You’ll need a W-2 from DFAS to qualify for the free filing offer.

For military veterans and retirees, the standard TurboTax discounts (like the 10% federal product deal) will apply. If you fall into the active-duty category, this promotion is an excellent way to file your taxes without any out-of-pocket cost.

7. TurboTax Free Edition

For taxpayers with simple returns, TurboTax’s Free Edition is a great option. With this version, you can file both your federal and state taxes without spending a dime. Simple returns typically cover:

  • Simple Form 1040 returns only.
  • Limited credits (no schedules except for Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit and Student Loan Interest).

However, it’s worth noting that only about ~37% of taxpayers qualify for the Free Edition. If your return involves more complex situations, such as owning a business or investment income, you’ll likely need to upgrade to one of TurboTax’s paid tiers.

Still, if your situation is straightforward, this deal offers unbeatable value.

8. Bank and Credit Union Offers

TurboTax has long-standing partnerships with major financial institutions like Bank of America, Chase, Citi, and Wells Fargo to offer exclusive discounts to their customers. While many of these partnerships are expected to return in early 2025, the exact details for some institutions haven’t yet been announced.

Bank of America Discount

One deal we’ve seen before is a $20 cashback offer for Bank of America customers who pay for TurboTax products using a qualifying Bank of America credit or debit card. Here’s how it works:

  • Activate the offer in your Bank of America account.
  • Spend a minimum of $39 on a TurboTax online product while using the bank card tied to your Bank of America account.
  • Receive $20 cashback, which will be credited to your account within 30 days (or after the next billing cycle).

This offer has typically been available throughout the tax season, and it’s worth checking your Bank of America online account to see if it’s active. Navigate to the “cash back deals” section, where you’ll find the offer if it’s live (see examples below).

Other banks may have similar promotions, so if you bank with institutions like Chase or Citi, keep an eye out for announcements in the coming weeks.

Are Financial Institution Discounts as Good as They Used to Be?

In recent years, some users have noticed that bank-affiliated TurboTax discounts don’t pack the same punch they once did. One reason could be the increased exposure of these offers, as they’re often widely shared on social media and forums like Reddit. Additionally, partnering with financial institutions likely involves advertising fees or commissions for TurboTax, which could impact the size of the discounts available to consumers.

While deals like the $20 Bank of America cashback offer are still valuable, they’re not as substantial as some of the larger discounts offered directly through TurboTax. It’s always a good idea to compare bank promotions with TurboTax’s own website offers to ensure you’re getting the best deal.
